Victorian Bedroom Refurbishment in Shefford, Bedfordshire
Restoring a Damaged Victorian Bedroom
We recently completed another Victorian bedroom refurbishment in Shefford, Bedfordshire, where the property had undergone structural alterations before we arrived.
The homeowner had removed internal walls as part of their renovation, which unfortunately caused significant damage to the original lath and plaster walls. In addition, removing the old wallpaper from both the walls and ceiling had pulled away sections of the ageing plaster, leaving the surfaces cracked, uneven and unsuitable for decorating.
After assessing the condition of the room, we recommended overboarding the existing wall and ceiling to create a solid, long-lasting base while preserving the character of the property wherever possible.
The Work We Carried Out
For this project we completed:
Overboarded the damaged existing wall.
Overboarded the ceiling to provide a flat, secure surface.
Skim plastered the remaining original walls.
Produced smooth, modern finishes ready for painting and decorating.
Victorian properties often present unique challenges due to the age of the original plasterwork. By combining modern plasterboarding techniques with traditional plastering methods, we were able to achieve perfectly flat walls and ceilings while giving the room a fresh new lease of life.
