Complete 4 Bedroom Bungalow Re-Skim & Floor Screeding Project in St Neots

At A.Nicholls Plastering, we've recently completed a full internal plastering renovation on a four-bedroom bungalow in St Neots, transforming an extended property ready for its next stage of refurbishment.

Although every project has its challenges, this one certainly tested us thanks to the UK's recent heatwave. High temperatures can make plaster dry much faster than normal, meaning careful preparation, constant monitoring and years of experience are essential to achieve a smooth, high-quality finish.

A Complete Renovation Project

This bungalow had undergone extensive building work before we arrived, including a large extension and several new internal partition walls. Our job was to bring the entire property together with fresh plasterwork so every room was ready for decorating.

The project included:

  • Full re-skimming of all existing walls throughout the bungalow.

  • Skimming newly installed plasterboard on the new partition walls.

  • Blending old and new surfaces seamlessly.

  • Floor screeding a newly extended 50m² area to create a perfectly level base for the finished flooring.

By the end of the project, every room had a fresh, smooth finish, ready for painting and flooring installation.

Working Through the UK Heatwave

The recent spell of exceptionally hot weather across the UK made this project particularly demanding. Heat causes plaster to pull moisture much more quickly than usual, reducing working time and increasing the importance of proper background preparation.

To maintain the quality we're known for, every area was carefully controlled throughout the day. We adjusted our working methods, managed drying times and ensured each section was finished to the highest standard despite the challenging conditions.

It's jobs like these that demonstrate why experience matters when choosing a plasterer.

New Plasterboard Meets Existing Walls

One of the most important parts of this project was creating a consistent finish between the newly built areas and the original bungalow.

The builders had installed several new partition walls using plasterboard, while much of the original property required over-skimming to refresh older surfaces. Our aim was to ensure there was no visible difference between the old and new construction once decorated.

After careful preparation, every wall was skimmed to produce a uniform, smooth finish throughout the property.

50 Square Metre Floor Screeding

As part of the extension, we also installed a traditional sand and cement screed across approximately 50 square metres of new floor.

A well-laid screed is essential for creating a strong, level base before tiles, laminate, engineered wood or carpet are fitted. Taking the time to achieve a perfectly level finish helps prevent future flooring issues and gives homeowners the best possible result.

Another Happy Customer in St Neots

Large renovation projects require careful planning, attention to detail and reliable workmanship. From preparing the existing walls to finishing the new plasterboard and screeding the extended floor, every stage of this project was completed with care and pride.

We're delighted with the finished result and look forward to seeing the bungalow once it's fully decorated.
